Job Description:
The Daycare Supervisor is responsible for the daily operations, administration, and pedagogical leadership of the childcare centre. This role ensures a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for children while fostering positive relationships with families, staff, and the community. The Supervisor ensures strict compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 (CCEYA), Ontario Ministry of Education regulations, local public health guidelines, and the centre’s policies and Program Statement. Acting as both a mentor to educators and a primary contact for parents, the Supervisor champions high-quality early childhood education.
Job Responsibilities:
Licensing, Compliance & Regulatory
- Serve as the designated Supervisor under CCEYA, holding legal responsibility for licence compliance.
- Maintain compliance with CCEYA regulations, municipal licensing requirements, and Ministry of Education inspections.
- Manage CWELCC funding compliance, fee reporting, enrollment data, and reconciliation submissions.
- Maintain required documentation: staff qualifications/RECE registration, criminal reference checks, first aid/CPR certifications, immunization and medical records and medical plans.
- Own and maintain incident reporting, serious occurrence reports, and liaison with the Ministry and licensing officers.
- Develop organizational policies, procedures, and operational standards with support from other team members.
- Ensure health & safety documentation and incident reporting systems are maintained with support from other divisions.
- Oversee technology systems, recordkeeping, and data privacy compliance with support from other divisions.
Staffing & HR Administration
- Manage staff scheduling to meet ratio and RECE-supervision requirements at all times.
- Oversee hiring coordination, onboarding, and credential verification for new staff.
- Ensure proper supervision, orientation, and policy reviews for all employees, volunteers, and student placements prior to engagement.
- Track staff training/PD compliance (first aid, CPR, vulnerable sector checks, mandatory training modules).
- Manage staff attendance, leave requests, and coverage planning.
- Conduct performance check-ins and address HR issues in coordination with Ampere's HR function.
Enrollment & Family-Facing Administration
- Manage enrolment, waitlists, registration, and family records with support from other divisions.
- Monitor occupancy targets, staffing ratios, and operational performance.
- Oversee family communications, fee collection/CWELCC subsidy administration, and billing inquiries.
- Handle parent concerns/complaints as the first point of escalation.
- Maintain enrollment records and attendance tracking for funding reporting.
Operations & Facility
- Oversee day-to-day facility operations: supplies, maintenance requests, vendor coordination.
- Manage health and safety compliance (sanitation logs, playground inspections, emergency drills).
- Oversee food program compliance if applicable (nutrition standards, allergy tracking).
- Manage petty cash/budget tracking for daycare-level operating expenses.
- Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and expense tracking.
Attributes and Qualifications:
- Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate.
- Must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator.
- Standard First Aid and CPR level C.
- 2 years experience working in a licensed childcare setting, management position preferred.
- Criminal Reference Check and a Vulnerable Sector Screening valid within the last 6 months.
